Review - 2.28.08 - Stars Over Half Moon Bay
Rod Humble is best known for a game called The Marriage, which dealt with exactly what the title says. Not exactly a usual subject for video games, but then Humble isn’t exactly your usual game designer. If you need further proof of that, look no farther then Humble’s second foray into indie gaming, the exquisitely titled Stars Over Half-Moon Bay...read more
Site Progress Report -2.25.08
I know it's been a whole week since my last update, but that doesn't mean I haven't been working on the site. Most of my work has been to really dig into Aquaria, which is a pretty big game. I know that at $30 there must be a lot of people on the fence about this game, but I hope that the impressions I put up today, and the eventual review (up when I finish the game, and not a second sooner) will sway most to support the game. Some other minor updates today, including a brief mention of the IGF 2008 winner Crayon Phyics Deluxe. I'd love to get my hands on a preview build of the game, but I have a feeling that won't be happening. This site is still pretty small. Instead you can expect a mini-review of the original Crayon Physics (a very basic prototype). It might be another few days before I update again. Like I mentioned last time, what I really need to do is work out a schedule so you know when to expect what from me. For now you'll just have to settle for me popping in randomly, like some sort of creepy internet jack in the box.
Updated Links -2.25.08
Very minor update for the moment, just added eyemaze. You can expect an overhaul one of these days where I add a lot more links. One of things I'm going to start doing is adding links to games and developers that I've covered on the site. For now just check out eyemaze if you've never been there before. It's simple, but also a lot of fun.News Update - 2.25.08 - Crayon Phyics Deluxe Winner at IGF

Site Work Progress Report - 2.17.08
Hey guys. Not sure if anyone is actually reading this yet, but I just thought I'd fill you in with where I'm heading with the site. One thing I've realized, that isn't exactly news, is that I'm just one person and that I'm going to have to prioritize this site to make it work. Given that I've decided to make my focus on games coverage, previews and reviews to be specific.I will make sporadic news updates, but there's just no way I can keep up with a place like TIGsource. Not only do I not have the time, but I don't have the connections yet to get any real news that isn't being reported elsewhere. Maybe someday, but not yet...

Site Intro - 2.10.08

...some cliche's are better off dead...unless of course they come back as zombies...elcome to Negative Space Games. As you can easily see this is a website under massive construction. I'd post the image of a consruction sign, but some cliches are better off dead...unless of course they come back as zombies in which case, well...lets just hope that doesn't happen.
So what exactly is this website going to be about, other then undead cliches shambling about looking for brains to eat? And for that matter what in the hell do I mean when I say "Negative space games"? Am I just trying to be cryptic and confusing?
Negative space is an art term that refers to the space around an object. It can be used to create interesting optical illusions, but is also an important element in the composition of any artwork. Games in this case refers to video games--in specific indie games. With the advent of services like Valve's Steam, Microsoft's Xbox Arcade, and Sony's Playstation Network indie games have been recieving a lot more attention lately, but they've been around for a while now.
These are games that exist in the space around the mainstream game industry. In a world of ballooning budjets and slim profit margins the real innovation takes place in the indie gameing community. And yet there is no real authoritative source on this important segment of game developers. To find out about independent games a person has to scour a variety of scattered sources ranging from the casual focus of jayisgames.com all the way up to mainstream game review sites like IGN and Gamespot.
My aim with Negative Space Games is to change that. I'm not delusional enough to believe that I can outdo a site like jayisgames.com. In fact I don't ever want to outdo them. My dream is to create a new sort of website. I am passionate about these games and I want to help people find them. I want to let you know what indie games are truly worth your time, but more then that I want to create a window into this facinating scene.
Thank you very much for visiting my site.
